Thanks, Tod. I’m endlessly fascinated by our climate and environment here.

Me too, Charlie.

How I'd love to see those forests! I like rainy places, which is just as well, since I live in one.

Right, I don't understand people who complain about rain, but I guess you can have too much of a good thing.

But – as the legendary Mae West used to say – "Too much of a good thing can be wonderful!"

Never heard her say that, but makes good sense, in select situations .

I just loved this read, Tod, as one of the things I'm most "mist"ified by (sorry for the bad pun), is how the weather is such an incredible phenomenon here in the PNW. There are so many types of rain, that I think we may need more words to describe them: mist, that almost invisible super light rain that you almost can't see unless you're viewing it against something darker, then light steady rain, medium rain, torrential downfall/atmospheric river rain, and so many in-between forms. It blows my mind continually.

I'd rather watch a storm from my cozy den with a fire burning than doing almost anything else. So thank you for this.

I can say the same thing about storms on the boat with a fire going ! And, 'tis the season. Scavenging for firewood is one of main occupations these days, not having a place to store much, it's a constant chore and mostly enjoyable. Right with you on the rain thing. I'm trying to think who wrote a really funny essay on NW rain. He's dead now I believe. Looking at the weather, looks like a lot of happy weather coming up this week. !

So gorgeous Tod, making me actually miss Seattle rain. We are heading to Whistler in a few weeks so probably we will get some of it anyway, and hopefully more of it as snow than rain.

Tod Cheney's avatar

Sometime I want to see that Whistler country . But these days I prefer to appreciate my snow at a distance. : ) Nice to hear from you Julie, it's been a while.

You are welcome Tod! Come visit us. We should be there for another few years until the kids finish skiing. Just the ski-to-sky drive is worth it.

Making me miss the PNW and the peninsula in particular a ton.

I now find myself wondering at the possible metaphors contained in a rain shadow.

Thanks for this candid glimpse into your seasons.

Tod Cheney's avatar

I've wondered about the metaphors too, but nothing's come up. Let me know if you think of something.

I'm wondering how you got those on this page Lucinda?

I have a MacBook Air & a button (down furtherest left bottom row keyboard) fn w/a world symbol 🌎 that I touch. 🕶️ I love emojis. Like modern hieroglyphics.

I will send a Fraser Polar Front for your birthday. This strong polar outflow funnels down the Fraser River Valley and freeze your bippies off (or it a bippy?) You need more excitement in your life.
